Decorative Fruit Platter

To make this “pine tree” take a pineapple and laden it with colorful fruit-kabob branches. You can use any fruit you like that can be held on a skewer. Your children can help with some of these steps.

SUPPLIES NEEDED:

Large pineapple
Small skewers (we used 50 6-inch bamboo skewers)
Assorted fresh fruit (grapes, strawberries, star fruit, cantaloupe and honeydew all work well)

DIRECTIONS:

TREE TRUNK:
1. Remove the top of your large pineapple and cut about 1 inch off of the bottom.

2. Peel your large pineapple. An adult should do this part.

BRANCHES:
1. Take one of the 6-inch skewers and thread three to five pieces of assorted fresh fruits.

2. Repeat with the other 49 skewers.

3. Starting at the bottom of your large pineapple, insert the skewers into the pineapple at a slight angle.Don’t worry about making your branches perfect or precise, trees don’t grow that way.

4. Top the tree with skewered slices of star fruit. If you can’t find star fruit, you can use pieces of cantaloupe or honeydew and twist the pieces on the skewer to make a “fanned” look.

5. After the branches are eaten, don’t forget to slice up the tree trunk.

* Have fun with your tree. Make it colorful and fun.
* Let your kids help where ever they can.
