Friendly Snowman Cake

This chocolate snowman cake is fun for the whole family. It’s always fun to watch the snowman’s personality come to life as we decorated him with assorted candy.

INGREDIENTS:
Your Favorite Chocolate Cake Mix (follow the box directions)
1 1/2 cups Vanilla Frosting
Shredded Coconut (optional)
2 Licorice Drops
1 Large Orange Gumdrop
Red Shoestring Licorice
Red Fruit Leather (optional)
3 Starlight Mints (or other round hard candy)
3 Small Gumdrops
2 Sticks Chocolate Licorice (or pretzel sticks)

DIRECTIONS:

1. Heat the oven to 325 degrees.

2. Grease and flour two ovenproof glass bowls, one slightly larger than the other.

3. In a large mixing bowl, mix your box cake following the directions.

4. Fill the bowls about two thirds full.

5. Bake the smaller cake for about 50 minutes and the larger cake for about 65 minutes (make sure the cake is done by inserting a toothpick into the center. If the toothpick comes out clean, the cake is done).

* Also, when done, the surface will spring back when touched.

6. Cool in the bowls for 10 minutes.

7. Invert onto a large, platter (or cooling racks) and cool completely.

8. Ice the largest cake with the vanilla frosting.

9. Carefully, set the smaller cake on top of the larger cake and continue icing the smaller cake.

10. Sprinkle with shredded coconut, if desired.

11. Add gumdrop eyes, an orange gumdrop nose and fashion a broad smile with shoestring red licorice.

12. To add a scarf, cut two 2-inch-wide strips of fruit leather, notch the ends and wrap around the neck of the snowman.

13. Use starlight mints topped with gumdrops for the buttons.

14. Finish off the snowman with two chocolate licorice arms (or two pretzel rods).

* Serves 10 to 12.
